As if a creepy-looking nun is not enough, knowing that she is capable of murder certainly sends chills down the spine. The Nun is the next spinoff in the terrifying Conjuring universe, and the first teaser trailer was recently unveiled. Just like its predecessors, the upcoming film lives up to the horror set by the earlier installments.

The Nun is a prequel, exploring the origins of The Conjuring 2’s evil nun, Valek. The film was set in 1952, and it follows a priest and his assistant as they look into the suicide of a young woman in a Romanian abbey, discovering unholy secrets along the way.

Warner Bros. has released an unsettling first trailer for “The Nun.”

The Nun’s official synopsis states:

“When a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania takes her own life, a priest with a haunted past and a novitiate on the threshold of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate. Together they uncover the order’s unholy secret. Risking not only their lives but their faith and their very souls, they confront a malevolent force in the form of the same demonic nun that first terrorized audiences in ‘The Conjuring 2,’ as the abbey becomes a horrific battleground between the living and the damned.”

The Hallow’s Corin Hardy directs the prequel.

The Nun is the second spinoff franchise to stem from the original Conjuring films, following the Annabelle series.

Annabelle was a doll that appeared in the opening scenes of the first Conjuring movie in 2013. Now, the demonic sister from The Conjuring 2 returns to terrorize Taissa Farmiga’s novitiate at a remote convent.

The footage starts with a woman’s voiceover describing her visions of an evil nun.

The trailer concludes, “Pray for forgiveness.”

The Nun opens on September 7, 2018. Watch the full trailer below.
