Morgan Mikenas finds comfort in promoting something that most women may cringe at. The fitness blogger is inspiring people into embracing their natural beauty, and when she said “natural,” she really meant it.

While many consider the “no makeup” look to be a promotion of natural beauty, Morgan took things a little further than that. She decided to stop shaving her body hair and revealed what it was like after three years of growth.

Morgan recalled an incident at school, when she was around 11 or 12 years old, where other girls laughed at her hairy legs while she was wearing gym shorts. She said she was so upset that she ran straight home to her mom and cried. She then asked if she could teach her how to shave.

Despite her unfortunate experience, Morgan gradually gained confidence and realized that she shouldn’t take other people’s opinions too seriously.

From 2016, the body-positive advocate made the conscious decision to ditch razors in her routine. Morgan has spoken openly about her decision to not shave in a YouTube video, which is entitled “Why I Don’t Shave.”

She said:

“I’m not trying to make all of humanity stop shaving their hairy armpits and leg hair anymore. I just want to inspire others [to do] what works for you, what makes you feel the most comfortable … I want everybody not to feel ashamed of themselves. I think it’s unfair that people think they have to be in this cultural norm. Just do whatever makes you feel good.”

Morgan claims that one of the reasons for doing so has been the fact that it just takes so much time. She realized that she doesn’t need to do this anymore when she took forever in the shower one day shaving everything and washing her hair and body afterward.

In one Instagram post, she said: “What is beauty anyway? To me… it’s to be beautiful before someone else told you what beautiful is supposed to be.. Just as you are, you are beautiful.”
