7 Most Beautiful Mosques Around the World

These are breathtaking!

Mosque (Masjid) is a Holy place for Muslims. It is where all the Muslims of the community come together and have their prayers.

Mosques have existed for thousands of years, and over the course of Islam’s journey across the globe, the house of worship has adapted and taken up different architectural styles to suit different cultures. Here are seven of the most beautiful Mosques around the world.

1. Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, United Arab Emirates

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was constructed between 1996 and 2007. The building complex measures approximately 290 m (960 ft) by 420 m (1,380 ft), covering an area of more than 12 hectares (30 acres), excluding exterior landscaping and vehicle parking.

The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque has many special and unique elements: The carpet in the main prayer hall is considered to be the world’s largest carpet made by Iran’s Carpet Company and designed by Iranian artist Ali Khaliqi.

2. The Blue Mosque, Turkey

The Sultan Ahmed Mosque/Sultan Ahmet Mosque or the Blue Mosque, as it is popularly known, was constructed between 1609 and 1616 during the rule of Ahmed I. It has five main domes, six minarets, and eight secondary domes.

The most important element in the interior of the mosque is the mihrab, which is made of finely carved and sculptured marble, with a stalactite niche and a double inscriptive panel above it. Many windows surround it.

3. Nasir al-Mulk Mosque, Iran

The Nasir al-Mulk Mosque is named in popular culture as the Pink Mosque due to the usage of considerable pink color tiles for its interior design.

Construction began in 1876 by order of Mirzā Hasan Ali (Nasir ol Molk), a Qajar ruler, and was completed in 1888.

4. Al-Haram Mosque, Saudi Arabia

The Great Mosque of Mecca, also called the Al-Haram Mosque, is the largest mosque in the world. It is said to be able to accommodate up to three million worshippers in one sitting, and it covers 40 acres.

This mosque is always open, but the city of Mecca is strictly forbidden to non-Muslims.

5. Hassan II Mosque, Morocco

The Hassan II Mosque or Grande Mosquée Hassan II was completed in 1993. Notable architectural features include the conspicuous columns, the horseshoe arches, and the innumerable muqarnas embellishing the ceilings.

The dome, arches, and walls give a grand ambiance to the mosque.
